At the Macon-Bibb County Commission Meeting on May 21, 2019, Pastor John Herring of Glorious Hope Church delivered the invocation. He was also recognized with a proclamation for his efforts in our community. You can watch that proclamation presentation at the 13:45 mark in this video.

Four students led the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance. Jacob Whittington, Eagle Scout, and Adam Whittington, Life Scout were two of them. Also, Jaylin Threitt and Jacob Threitt, 7th graders at Miller Middle School, and part of Troop 100 which is chartered by the 100 Black Men of Macon-Middle Georgia, attended to help lead the pledge.

Mayor Reichert and Commissioners held a special recognition to read a proclamation declaring May 21 “Rick Devens Day” in Macon-Bibb County! Rick is a newscaster at WGXA who recently achieved global fame by making it to the top 4 on CBS’ Survivor: Edge of Extinction! We’re proud to have Rick in our community, bringing such great attention to our community. Agenda Items


The Board of Commissioners voted to approve a measure which will reduce penalties for those in possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

Commissioners approved sending a request to the Georgia Department of Transportation to rename a part of State Route 74 (Thomaston Road) to “Tobesofkee Parkway.”

The Board approved an amendment to its pension plan to close the plan to new hires and rehires. This means no new employees can join it, so a new plan would need to be adopted for them. Read more about it here.

Commissioners approved an Administrative Order on Consent with the United States Environmental Protection Agency for stormwater remediation and improvements.

The Board approved the 20th amendment to the 2018 SPLOST Project Timeline to reflect funding for the Bibb County Courthouse parking desk and road and sidewalk improvements near Middle Georgia State University. They also approved using $2.5 million in voter-approved SPLOST funds for those improvements at MGSU.

Commissioners approved using $1.9 million for continuing work on all communication towers. They also approved $97,700 to demolish the radio tower at Government Center, and $793,000 for upgrades to the Knight Road Communications Shelter and Radio Tower. All of these projects will be paid for using voter-approved SPLOST funds.

The Board approved a lease with River Edge Behavioral Health Center for office space at 175 Emery Highway.

Commissioners approved $22,806 in additional funding for the Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency to pay for weather and flood damage.

The Board approved $65,000 in additional funding for the Coroner’s Office to pay for body storage costs.

The Commission approved correcting a clerical error in establishing the Community Redevelopment Tax Incentive Program.







The Board approved a change in Lake Tobesofkee parking fees to allow free visitation for Bibb County students visiting on school field trips.

Commissioners approved Raymond Timley to serve as a first-time member, and Nancy Terrell to serve another term as a member of the Bibb County Civil Service Board.

The Board approved the release of a demolition lien on 1519 Schofield Street.

The Macon-Bibb County Board of Commissioners holds meetings on the first and third Tuesday of each month. Committee meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays. We stream live on our Facebook page and on Cox Channel 14.
